  • Richard Shelton – described as ‘the world leading dramatic interpreter of Frank Sinatra’ on stages from London to New York and Los Angeles – recorded his debut big-band and swing album, ‘An Englishman in Love in LA’ at Capitol Studios, Los Angeles, alongside some of Sinatra’s band mates and LA’s hottest young jazz talent.

Join Richard as he celebrates the Hollywood jazz songbook – old and new – and dives deep into the racy meaning behind the standards, from Johnny Mercer’s, ‘One For My Baby’ (and one more for the road)’, ‘Making Whoopee’ by Gus Kahn and ‘Anything Goes’ by Cole Porter.

Modern-day hits include jazz interpretations on ‘And I Love Her’ by Lennon/McCartney and the originals ‘Lost & Found’ by Alex Frank – music arranger for Jeff Goldblum – and the album’s title track ‘An Englishman in Love in LA’ by Alex Rudd, BBC Young Composer of the Year, as heard on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3 and Jazz FM.

Richard is the proud winner of the ‘Best of Broadwater Award’ at the 2023 Hollywood Fringe Awards and ‘Best Solo Cabaret’ at the Adelaide International Fringe Festival.

“If Crazy Coqs had rafters, there’d be standees hanging from them. With only a piano and bass, he contrived to make a small space – what the French call in time – feel like the Hollywood Bowl, with The Boston Pops complementing the vocal cords. In Hollywood they say about certain actors that “the camera loves him/her” meaning that over and above any talent involved the camera finds them irresistible and it’s the same with Richard Shelton; no matter how many times he deviates from a lyric the audience can’t get enough of him. In sum, this is the kind of show that should be taught in schools.” – Leon Nock, Jazz Journal, 2023

“Shelton is the epitome of cool deserving of audiences on both sides of the Atlantic” – Bonnie Priever, LA Examiner

“What a voice! The future belongs to vocalists, and Richard Shelton is going to lead the way there”- Gillian Reynolds, BBC Radio 2

“Richard Shelton is a superior singer who tips his hat to a legend with grace and elegance on ‘An Englishman In Love In L.A.’, an album that Sinatra himself would be proud of! Well done!” – Edward Blanco, ‘All About Jazz’, Los Angeles

“His selection of material is impeccable, and his style is shark-skin sharp”– George Harris, Jazz Weekly, Los Angeles
