  • ‘All Classical Music Explained’ is a brilliant stand-up show, starring a comedic maestro who has conducted more orchestras than you can wave a stick at.

In addition to his career on BBC Radio 4 and Classic FM, Rainer Hersch’s comedy routines have earned him over 60M fans on YouTube. In this quick witted and splendidly silly hour, he tackles those difficult questions you have pondered but been too embarrassed to ask: “why is organ music so boring?”; “is the triangle hard?” and “what do conductors actually do?” And, whether you are a music professor or couldn’t tell string quartets from a string vest, trust us, these are the answers you have been waiting for.

With slides, live music and laugh-out-loud gags ‘All Classical Music Explained’ probably won’t teach you anything, but it will make you laugh. Really laugh.

Rainer Hersch is half German, half English, “which means he’d like to take over the world but he’s too polite”. A trained classical pianist and conductor, for 25 years he has been going AWOL on comedy stages in the UK and abroad, including the London Comedy Store and umpteen times at the Edinburgh, Adelaide and Edmonton Festivals.

When he is not doing that, he is back at his day job, conducting orchestras from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to the Tasmanian Symphony.  Catch him here while you can.
