  • A special concert to celebrate the birthday of Django Reinhardt this evening.

Straight forward, hard-swinging, string-led early jazz with London’s newest classic jazz band. A drummer-less line-up with a New Orleans swagger, full of texture, nuance and a collective spirit of music-making reminiscent of music anchored in pre-war jazz styles.

Capturing the spirit of early classic jazz pioneers from each side of the Atlantic with a programme of greats from the pens of Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet… music from an era when jazz was revolutionary, controversial, and “hot”.

Fronted by the London Django Collective’s curator and violinist, composer and educator Matt Holborn; regular figure in both London’s classic jazz and African scenes John Kelly on guitar; anchored by the unstoppable pulse of rhythm guitarist Dave Kelbie, accompanist to Evan Christopher, Don Vappie, Fapy Lafertin etc; and bassist Pete Thomas, well known in the capital for his hard-hitting and stylistic versatility.

    Matt Holborn – Violin
    John Kelly – Guitar
    Dave Kelbie – Guitar
    Pete Thomas – Bass
