Coming up…

5th – 11th May – Gabrielle Ducomble

An established favourite in her adopted UK, Gabrielle brings a sophisticated blend of Parisian-style jazz, toe-tapping swing, chansons, and vintage melodies. Accompanied by guitar, clarinet or violin and double bass. Sassy, jazzy and glamorous!

10th + 11th May – Lunchtimes – Hot Strings Review

Dubbed as: “One of the best jazz fiddlers anywhere…” by the New York Times, Mike Piggott has carved out a succesful dual career as a recording artist and one of Britain’s finest Swing Jazz fiddle players. During his career, Mike has worked with the likes of Bert Jansch and Ralph Mctell, Peter Green and Denny Laine, and John Etheridge, Martin Taylor and Bucky Pizzarelli.

12th – 15th May – The Travelling Janes

The Traveling Janes are a band of woman from five countries who specialise in vibrant old time jazz and blues. Their aim to spread the joyful music that emerged in the prohibition era – just as the original ‘janes’ of the southern railroads and traveling tent shows of the 1920s.

16th – 18th May – The Vagabond Jacks

The Vagabond Jacks are a new international collective driven by the passion and joy of the early jazz movement. Each vagabond is a bonafide specialist in this era of music and a high level improviser – not a ‘colour by numbers’ pastiche. Tonight we explore the jazz age standards and less commonly heard tunes with our three nations band!

17th + 18th May – Lunchtimes – The Dime Notes

Join The Dime Notes as they swing the roof off with their customary blues-drenched 20’s New Orleans jazz, and repertoire of stomps, blueses, and forgotten gems of the era.

Featuring Chris Barber’s long-time clarinetist David Horniblow, U.S pianist and Morton specialist Andrew Oliver, and the unstoppable pulse of London’s knockout rhythm section, guitarist Dave Kelbie of Evan Christopher’s Django a la Creole fame, and bassist Louis Thomas.

19th – 25th May – Ensō Swing Band

Ensō Swing Band plays a joyful mix of early American and European jazz. This includes the songs associated with Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Django Reinhardt, Charles Trenet and others from the era. Formed by double bassist Chris Hyde-Harrison and pianist James Buckham, their infectious take on early jazz has won over fellow musicians, swing dancers and gained them plaudits from the press. Joined by vocalist Kitty Whitelaw expect sprightly tones, agile piano playing and contagiously effervescent jazz!

24th + 25th May – Lunchtimes – Bezique

Led by cellist Shirley Smart, Bezique perform a variety of acoustic jazz and cafe music from around the world. Their repertoire includes music by Django Reinhardt, Richard Galliano, Bireli Lagrene, and others, as well as original compositions.

They also incorporate an occasional rarely heard North African flavour to their repertoire through the inclusion of works by the Algerian chaabi pianist Maurice el-Medioni, giving them a uniquely cosmopolitan sound on the UK acoustic jazz scene.

The line up varies from duo to quintet and includes Shirley Smart on cello, Peter Michaels on guitar, Mike Guy on accordion, Marcus Penrose on bass and Demi Garcia Sabat on drums.

26th May – 1st June –  Annie Majin

Rising star vocalist Annie Majin is a gifted storyteller. With a charming and powerful voice, she will be performing a handpicked selection of hidden gems from the Broadway and Western repertoires of the 20th Century, arranged for her band of London’s finest musicians. Expect a vintage sound with quality musicianship.

31st May + 1st June – Lunchtimes – The Louise Balkwill Trio

Born into a family of musicians, Louise Balkwill has never been short of inspiration, having been raised as a multi-instrumentalist before turning her interests to singing at the age of 16.

Since moving to London in September 2012, Louise has had the pleasure of learning from and working with musicians such as Leroy Jones, Barry Harris, Pete Churchill, and Trudy Kerr to name a few, and having performed in top venues all over London, such as Pizza Express Jazz Club, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, 606 Club, The Archduke, Charlie Wright’s and Oliver’s Jazz Bar.

“A true new talent, shining right here…”
