“To turn down an invitation to see Barb Jungr perform live is to miss out on a revelatory and uplifting experience.” (The Guardian). Barb Jungr, the brilliant British chanteuse “who inserts sticks of emotional dynamite into songs of every vintage”, (Stephen Holden, The New York Times) starts the New Year season at The Crazy Coqs with her show TAKE ME TO THE RIVER.
First premièred at Café Carlyle in 2008, but never performed in the UK, this show brings together a collection of songs on the theme of rivers and their beauty, emotional and spiritual connotations. Barb will perform songs such as Joni Mitchell's River, Bruce Springsteen's The River, Bob Dylan's A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, Hank Williams' Lost On The River and Mike Scott's Fisherman's Blues, as well as a couple of her favourite Great American Songbook songs.
One of the most respected interpreters of contemporary songs and originator of The New American Songbook, Barb has been busy with a series of sell-out shows here, across the USA and Australia. In 2010 she was voted the Number One Show of the Year by Time Out, New York and Best Cabaret CD of the Year - Barb Jungr, The Men I Love.
Barb will be accompanied by Simon Wallace.
