THE ALTERNATIVE VALENTINE'S CABARET
What better time than Valentine's Day to spend an hour
celebrating the darker side of love?
Join Louise Messenger and her Jazz Marauders as they sing selected songs of love, death, disruption and destruction. From Copacabana to Delilah, they'll have you singing along, and revealing the darker sides of some of our most beloved pop and jazz standards.*
*nb. May contain some traces of actual love songs, because at heart Louise is a big softie and loves a bit of romance.
Louise Messenger is a Jazz/Contemporary vocalist originally from Australia but now based in London.
A captivating performer, Louise loves all things swing. Her greatest influences are Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Keely Smith and the Boswell Sisters. As well as classic standards, she is always seeking tunes that are a little left of centre, and loves to bring back to life songs from tin pan alley and the Great American Songbook that have been forgotten in the jazz canon.
With a dynamic and smoky voice, Louise loves to entertain and connect with her audiences. An avid swing dancer herself, she loves to sing for dancers as well as jazz lovers, and can most often be found on stage completely unable to stand still.
