Every Friday and Saturday, following the 9.15PM ticketed event earlier that night, our distinctive cabaret space will play host to this late-night music show.
With a different band each day, playing from around 11.00pm until 12.30am, the diverse line-up will champion the likes of Blues, Jazz, Swing, Cuban, Calypso, Americana, African Highlife and everything in between.
Please do not book tickets. This show is completely free of charge with no reservation required. Entry will be on a first come, first served basis.
London-based Kamao Quartet is a chamber jazz group with a contemporary approach to American jazz from the swing/bebop era and to Django Reinhardt's legacy. 'Kamao' means "I like/I love/I want" in Romani dialect and the group boasts musicians whose résumés read like a who's who of almost all genres of music.
Characterised by the combination of the arched-top electric guitar of band leader Jean de Talhouët (of Onmo, Super Best friends Club, Gainsbourg Confidential…) with the rhythm guitar Dave Kelbie (accompanist to many jazz & world music artists including Bireli Lagrene, Evan Christopher, Roby Lakatos), the band's sound echoes the tradition of guitar led - no drums - jazz bands.
It is expertly fronted by the clarinet/tenor saxophone of Dave Shulman (sideman to some of Britain's foremost jazz artists including Mike Garrick, John Dankworth, Cleo Lane, Alan Barnes, Andy Panayi and Guy Barker among others) and backed up by double bassist Ruth Goller (of Let's Spin, Gufo and Melt Yourself Down).
