Marlene Verplanck

"The last of her kind.. get down to The Crazy Coqs while you can." JazzWise Mag
"She may be the most accomplished interpreter of American popular music performing today." The New York Times.
"Each song was sung as if for the first time. Her delivery is indelibly as if each standard - its melody, its lyrics, its message - is a surprise even as she sings it; a gift to be unwrapped lovingly and shared with her rapt audience." Jazz Journal

Throughout her career, Marlene VerPlanck has stuck to her guns; paying loving care to the great American standards and new songs from America's finest composers, while ignoring mediocre pop tunes. Songwriter Hugh Martin (Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas) expressed it well: "We know our songs are safe in the hands of Marlene VerPlanck, and she will sing them better than anyone else."

For her Crazy Coqs debut, Marlene will feature songs from her latest CD BALLADS... MOSTLY, which has made four 2013 best ten lists in the US, and includes the songs of Harry Warren (I Only Have Eyes for You) and Cy Coleman (Witchcraft).

Marlene VerPlanck began her career as a studio musician in New York City, singing hundreds of commercials and backup to everyone from Sinatra to Kiss. She has recorded twenty-two albums that were produced and arranged by her late husband, J. Billy VerPlanck, with some of the world's most important instrumentalists, and has appeared in most of the New York concert venues.

Accompanying will be John Pearce on piano and Paul Morgan on bass

Before and during the shows, cocktails, wines, champagnes and snacks are available. We would also encourage you to enjoy a meal in the Brasserie before or after a performance.
