LondonJazz TransLATES is a monthly series on Friday nights, starting at 10.30pm.
Each session of the series celebrates the directness of expression and communication that vocalists can achieve when performing songs in their mother tongue. Think of the series as hassle-free travel for people who don't have the time to plan, or to take a weekend away. Order a drink, house lights down, and you're taken - in the mind - straight to a foreign country and connected directly to the emotional heart of a different culture.
The series is devised, and the singers and songs will be introduced and explained by jazz journalist, Sebastian Scotney, editor of LondonJazz News:
The second of the LondonJazz TransLATES series will present NOEMI NUTI, celebrating the Italian Festa della Liberazione. Noemi is of Italian descent, was born in New York and spent her childhood in Bracciano, North of Rome. She is a jazz graduate of Trinity Laban, and has worked extensively with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, the London Vocal Project, and the UK's leading samba squad, Rhythms of the City. She also runs her own band exploring Latin repertoire; an album release is imminent. Her Crazy Coqs date will be a cascade of popular Italian songs, from songwriters such as Mina, Fabrizio De André, Mia Martini, Umberto Bindi, and Bruno Martino. With Sardinian guitarist Giorgio Serci and Kenny Wheeler's favourite young bassist, Andrea di Biase.
