Internationally acclaimed singer / songwriter, Karen Lane, presents Passarim at Crazy Coqs this October where she will celebrate her love of Brazlian music by focussing on Brazilian standards, singing in both Portuguese and English.
Originally from Australia, Lane has lived in London for 18 years and produced six albums to critical acclaim. Her debut album, Once In A Lifetime, garnered the attention and positive reviews of international jazz press and radio play in the UK, Japan, USA and Canada. When Lane first hit the UK scene, she was quickly recognised by Sir Michael Parkinson and regularly featured on BBC Radio and Jazz FM.
Lane is an accomplished songwriter, having had original music featured at Melbourne and Sydney's International Arts Festivals. In 2004 she released Taste, including standards and originals described by Jazzwise as "so laidback that to listen to it, you risk slipping a disc. Perfect for those balmy summer evenings... a genuinely heartfelt homage to the profound allure of bossa nova".
"Sensually funky and soulful" - John Fordham, Jazz UK
"I know of no one else who sings with, what I can only describe as, her demure abandon. It's wholehearted but at the same time restrained, precisely phrased but not over studied, a fine and distinctive singer" - Musician Magazine
