Ivo Neame

Ivo Neame at The Crazy Coqs

ESCAPE HATCH is a new collaboration between MOBO-award winning pianist Ivo Neame, Italian double bass virtuoso Andrea di Biase and drummer of the moment Dave Hamblett.

The name of the group is a tribute to the power that music has to transport listeners and performers alike to the antipodes of the mind. The material is a mixture of di Biase and Neame's compositions, and the trio explores a huge variety of musical landscapes with characteristic verve and integrity. There are influences from classical composers such as Ligeti and Messaien, which nestle alongside polyrhythmic structures that are reminiscent of Vijay Iyer and Steve Lehman.

Ivo Neame is a forward thinking and innovative pianist, composer and multi-instrumentalist. As a musician of exceptional ability, Neame is developing a reputation as one of the most exciting and original pianists to emerge in some time. Well known as the pianist with Phronesis and with Norwegian saxophonist Marius Neset, his most recent release Yatra saw him reach new heights as a composer, leading an octet in a set of exuberant and creative originals. With an abundance of ideas, his career is travelling on a new trajectory set to emulate the profile achieved by the likes of Django Bates.
"Yatra is one of the most significant UK jazz releases of the year." Ian Mann, the Jazz Mann (2013)
"One of the finest multi-instrumentalists, composers and arrangers of his generation." Peter Quinn, The Arts Desk

Double bass player and composer Andrea Di Biase studied Classical Double Bass at Conservatory of Milan and on the Jazz Post-Graduate Course at the Guildhall School of Music in London. Together with pianist Liam Noble, Andrea plays in the new trio of the legendary trumpeter and composer Kenny Wheeler. In addition to this, he is leader of the Oltremare quartet, a collaboration featuring the renowned Italian pianist Antonio Zambrini. He is a highly-esteemed educator and has had many works performed on BBC Radio 3 and Radio RAI 3 in Italy.

Dave Hamblett has a reputation as one of the most in demand contemporary jazz drummers in London. As a sideman David has worked with the late great Abram Wilson, George Garzone, Nick Smart's "Jazz Matanzas", Buddy Greco to name but a few. As a bandleader and composer, Dave has received airplay for his compositions on Jazz FM, BBC Radio 3's "In Tune" and Jazzwise magazine have featured him in a number or articles as a new talent to watch.
