The inimitable jazz diva and Queen of the Blues, Gill
Manly performs her new show AT LAST! at
The Crazy Coqs, revealing the incredible life and career of R 'n B
High Priestess ETTA JAMES.
Described by Time Out as "a singer not lacking in testosterone", Manly dives right into the Etta James songbook, revealing the sexiest, bluesiest, most intense collection of songs. Expect all the biggest hits including "Purple Rain", "You Can Leave Your Hat On", "Hoochie Coochie Gal", "I'd Rather Go Blind", "Something's Got a Hold on Me, "Mojo Working" and many more. Manly triumphs both in the jazz genre and the blues. Much like Etta James herself, this show will be hot, sultry and soulful with plenty of that deep southern mojo.
Gill Manly is a considered a member of the British Jazz Royal family, a veteran of the UK jazz world. Her career began when she was discovered by international playboy and club owner Victor Lownes, who installed her immediately as his resident singer for 6 years continuously. She has recorded three albums to critical acclaim and has headlined at many of the Capital's top music venues ever since.
Gill is known for her passionate and highly moving interpretations, often described as "flying vocally without a net."
Her recent sell-out performance AT LAST! left
her audience in no doubt:
"Gill has heart, she has soul and she has the best voice you will hear in your lifetime. To experience a performance by Gill is a true privilege that you will never forget."
"Gill's tribute to the Etta James song book and Etta herself will have you on your feet cheering for more, more, more."
"She still makes my hair stand on end and I have been enjoying her unique vim and verve and sensitivity for 25 years… She is an interpreter of songs without peer; she can reduce this grown man to tears with her understanding and transmission of a key lyric, a key musical phrase…See her, hear her, love her."
"Completely knocked out by Gill Manly's breathtaking performance! Gravity-defying vocal skill, rhythmic genius, mesmerising stage presence and personality galore, combined to make a sensational and unforgettable performance!"
