Born in the UK and raised in Australia, Anita Wardell is noted for her mesmerising and captivating vocal improvisations and vocalese lyrics to instrumental solos. She is a musician who uses her voice as an instrument, displaying precision and agility, mixed with heartfelt emotion.

Wardell will be touring the UK this winter and, in a one-off, intimate form, comes to Crazy Coqs with pianist, Robin Aspland. During this time she will be recording a new album which will feature reworked standards and bebop tunes, as well as some new vocalese's written to solos by Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Jay Jay Johnson and Al Jareau.

"(Wardell has) unexpected vulnerability, which makes her reading of the ballads both beautiful and touching. Her honesty shines in this well-chosen collection of songs" - Norma Winstone, singer

"(Wardell is) a gift from Australia. What hits me is how expressive her ballad singing is. Then she has the courage to scat a ballad or two, not unlike a young lady disciple of the Ben Webster school" - Mark Murphy, Bebop pioneer
