Broadway, television & film actress, Anita Gillette, comes to Crazy Coqs to perform a loving tribute to her friend, Irving Berlin.
In 1962, Kennedy was in the White House, West Side Story was lighting up the big screen, and Ms. Gillette was granted the opportunity of working with one of her biggest idols, Irving Berlin. A lavish, eagerly anticipated Broadway show, Mr President, brought these two talented forces together for what would be Berlin's last new musical, and their burgeoning "father-daughter" relationship continued for many years thereafter.
In her latest cabaret outing, Me and Mr. B, Ms. Gillette offers some pert reminiscences and wise observations about those times with the man she called "Mr.B", punctuating her showbiz reporting with a selection of songs from his repertoire. She'll reprise some of her Mr President moments, including a number that was written especially for her, The Secret Service, as well as offer her own delivery of gems from the Berlin treasure trove.
The evening is directed by Barry Kleinbort, with musical direction by Paul Greenwood at the piano. The show offers a first hand account of both the man who provided America with some of its most enduring songs and a young, up-and-coming Broadway musical star who got to be part of that journey.
As well as starring in 14 Broadway shows, including Cabaret, Gypsy and Tony nominated Chapter Two, Ms. Gillette also played Tina Fey's mother in 30 Rock, 'Miss Mona' in Moonstruck, Klugman's wife in Quincy, Richard Gere's dance teacher in Shall We Dance, Bill Murray's mother in Larger Than Life, and Jennifer Anniston's mother in She's The One.
