  • ‘Chiaroscuro’ is the old master technique of putting dark tones next to light and Ty’s acclaimed original songs express just that, the deep and moving as much as the bright and humorous. They inhabit the realms of musical theatre, jazz standards, classical, pop and art song. With his ravishing melodies, rich trademark harmonies and clever, witty, lyrics Ty has been favourably compared to Sondheim, Legrand, Porter, Bacharach, Brel and Kander & Ebb.

Branded ‘ear-worms’, the songs are instantly familiar and strangely memorable, for woven into their DNA is The Great American Songbook and classic movie music of the early 20th century. And they are garnering attention on both sides of the Atlantic with recent presentations by Sidney Myer at Pangea and Claire Martin and Joe Stilgoe for the London Jazz Festival.

Ty was educated at London’s Purcell School of Music, mentored by both Vangelis and Elmer Bernstein, at one time signed to Elton John’s Rocket Music and briefly keyboard played for Billy MacKenzie’s The Associates. Best known for his award winning work as his tragic-comic alter ego Miss Hope Springs, Ty steps out from that glittering facade to let his songs speak for themselves.

‘One of the truly great songwriters of our time’ – Claire Martin OBE

‘A stack of new material that sounds as if it might possibly come from the Great American Songbook and yet speaks straight to the heart of today’ – British Theatre

‘A treasure trove of new special material, ready to be immortalised by cabaret and piano bar performers the world over’ – Bistro Awards NYC

‘Songs that prove him to be one of the better songwriters of his generation…a touch of Sondheim, a bit of Bacharach and no doubt some of the earthiness of Brel, yet they remain uniquely Ty Jeffries’ – Latest TV ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
