** Benjamin Scheuer is the recipient of the 2021 Kleban Award for Lyrics **
Once a month, Benjamin Scheuer and a guest songwriter share the stage to perform original songs and discuss songwriting.
This month, Scheuer is joined by Rosabella Gregory, an award-winning singer-songwriter (Recipient of the Vivian Ellis Prize and International Prize in the New York Songwriters’ Circle Song Contest), who has written for musical theatre, opera, television, and commercials. She has performed a live Radio 2 session with ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris, and has worked with Bob James, Anoushka Shankar, Soumik Datta, and Jools Holland, who she supported on his Country House tour. In collaboration with her twin Dina, she has composed the music to an adaptation of The Wind in the Willows starring Jennifer Saunders and Harriet Walter for Audible.
Benjamin Scheuer is an American singer-songwriter and playwright. He’s won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Performance, and Off-West End Award for Best New Musical for The Lion, as well as two British Animation Awards.
Scheuer’s songs are “awfully well-constructed and exactingly played; there’s a hint of Paul Simon in Scheuer’s easy, knowing lyrics and disciplined musicianship.” – Washington Post
“The vibe of casual, unrehearsed immediacy masks the narrative complexity of a novel or an opera… Scheuer plays guitar as if he invented the instrument: fearlessly, idiosyncratically, effortlessly.” – Los Angeles Times
