Roulston & Young bring this ‘wildly wicked programme of original musical comedy’ (★★★★ Musical Theatre Review) to Crazy Coqs for two nights only.
Their ‘effortless bonhomie and impeccable songs’ (★★★★ The Stage) have won them fans around the world including Off-Broadway and at the prestigious Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
Songs For Lovers (And Other Idiots) celebrates how we make fools of ourselves for love. With tales of cougars, silver foxes, the challenges of co habitation, messy one night stands, starting over and the joy of being just good friends, Roulston & Young invite us to explore the highs and lows of living with, and without, that special someone, whoever they may be.
Regulars at Crazy Coqs, they have enjoyed sell-out runs of their previous shows, Je Regrette!, Songs For Cynics and their celebrated love letter to Julie Andrews, Julie Madly Deeply. They have also appeared together on BBC Radio, at the Southbank and in London’s West End.
Sarah-Louise Young (Fascinating Aïda, An Evening Without Kate Bush, The Showstoppers, La Soiree) and Michael Roulston (Fascinating Aïda, Meow Meow, Jess Robinson, Dusty Limits, Christine Bovill) have been writing and performing partners for 15 years, starting life in cabaret and recently crossing over into musical theatre.
They have performed internationally, including Canada, Malaysia and at the prestigious Adelaide Cabaret Festival and last year they made their Off-Broadway debut together with their West End hit show about Julie Andrews, Julie Madly Deeply.
Regulars at the Edinburgh Fringe, their critically acclaimed Cabaret Whore shows enjoyed sold out runs before transferring to the Soho Theatre and both of their 2016 hits Je Regrette! and Roulston & Young: Songs For Lovers (And Other Idiots) played to packed crowds at Live At Zedel before embarking on UK and international tours.
They have won numerous awards including Best Musical Variety Act in the London Cabaret Awards and Time Out’s Top Ten Cabaret Act Of The Year and are regulars on London’s vibrant cabaret scene, appearing at Cafe de Paris, The Matcham Room at the Hippodrome, The Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall and Zedel as part of The Black Cat: Salon Des Artistes in their Saturday night residency.
As well as writing for themselves, they have been commissioned by The Terror Season at the Soho Theatre and Southwark Playhouse and written with several acts, including Marcel Lucont, Lili La Scala, Ophelia Bitz, Clementine Living Fashion Doll and TO&ST winner, Lynn Ruth Miller and Emmy nominated Fascinating Aida.
