  • Dynamic and prolific composer, saxophonist and arranger Asha Parkinson founded Kalpadruma in 2017 to explore authentic, vital, and exciting meeting points between Jazz, Contemporary Classical, Mediterranean, Arab, and Indian music traditions.

This programme is a fast-paced, cinematic journey of material from the group’s debut EP Onwards and material from the forthcoming album Possession. This new music explores the notion of ‘Possession’ from different angles—from obsessive love to mystical inspiration and beyond, drawing on themes from folk legends and fairy tales to Tolstoy, Rumi, and ancient Aramaic. It is centred around ideals of possession, reflected in Asha’s brand-new compositions plus arrangements of Jobim, Morricone, and Turkish baglama music.

Joining the line-up as featured guests for the evening are qanun player Konstantinos Glynos and singer Rebecka Edlund. Transcending different musical cultures and identities, the music entrances the listener in a vibrant, distinctive sonic landscape.
